Data Source and Station Data Notes

Primary source

The main source is the NREL/AFDC Alternative Fuel Stations data. The official AFDC station locator is a helpful place to compare official station information.

Freshness and EV detail sources

The directory watches the official data freshness signal and station-count changes before a refresh. EV pages may use reported charging-unit details such as connector, charging level, port count, and power when those fields are available in the source data.

Helpful public context sources

Some state, city, ZIP, and fuel pages include short context from public government sources. AFDC laws and incentives help visitors find policy records, and Census geography helps explain local area size. These sources add context only; they do not change station addresses, access status, or live availability.

Fields used by the directory

The directory may use station ID, station name, fuel type, address, city, state, ZIP code, latitude and longitude, access status, station status, phone number, hours, EV network, connector types, charger counts, pricing notes when reported, last-confirmed date, and update date.

EV network names

EV network names are shown as reported or normalized for readability. When a network has changed names, merged, or uses an official display name, we try to keep the public label clear while preserving the station facts.

Fuel coverage summary

What we do not add

We do not invent live charger availability, live prices, reviews, ratings, or station features that are not supported by the source data. If a page says a detail is not reported, that means the field was missing or not clear enough to show as a fact.

Missing-data policy

Some stations do not include every detail. When information is missing, the page says so with plain labels such as Not reported, Not available, Hours not reported, Phone number not reported, or Connector details not reported.

Corrections

If you see a station detail that looks wrong, email corrections@alternativefuelstations.com. We can review the page, improve wording, add a note when appropriate, and point you to the official source, station operator, or network when the source record itself needs correction.

Update timing

Station information can change before the next data refresh. We monitor the public source for meaningful count changes and refresh the directory when the data grows or changes. Visitors should still confirm important trip details with the station operator or charging network before leaving.
